Rothbard Graduate Seminar 2019

The purpose of the Rothbard Graduate Seminar is to provide an intense study of Misesian and Rothbardian economic analysis, along with the substantive conclusions of that research in related fields.

The core text for RGS 2019 is Man, Economy, and State, which each attendee will receive.

Welcoming remarks and discussions take place over dinner Sunday, June 2. Sessions begin Monday morning, June 3, and end Friday afternoon, June 7.

Attendance is limited to a small number of exceptional students who are pursuing graduate degrees in economics, history, philosophy, law, political science, and business disciplines and who seek a career in academia or research. Applicants must be current graduate students or provide a copy of graduate school acceptance for the fall.

Each applicant must provide a copy of the following: student photo ID, Unofficial Academic Transcript, one letter of academic recommendation, and a writing sample. Deadline for application is February 22, 2019. Applicants will be notified of the faculty decisions by March 8.  Students should apply online here.

Important Note: all seminar applicants agree to abide by the Mises Institute's Visiting Scholar Manual.

Scholarships include study materials, meals, accommodations with arrival Sunday, June 2 and departure Saturday, June 8 (accommodation location will be emailed to accepted students). Students are responsible for the cost of transportation to Auburn. (Most people fly into Atlanta airport, 100 miles north of Auburn and use Groome Transportation for shuttle service between Atlanta and Auburn. There are no shuttles to Auburn from airports other than Atlanta. Shuttle reservations can be made after you receive information on the accommodations location.)

A very limited number of Observer slots are available, with a registration fee of $1800 for Members, and $875 for full-time teachers and professors, which includes sessions and meals, but not accommodations. Information on Auburn area hotels is here. Faculty request that Observers refrain from questions or comments during the sessions, but welcome discussion during meals and breaks. Writing Sample

A sample of academic writing, either a paper written for a class or a BA or MA thesis, or articles published on Mises.org or Lewrockwell.com. Any length. Applicants are not expected to write something original specifically for this application.

Letter of Recommendation

This letter should address your academic strengths that go beyond what is recorded in the university transcript. Particularly helpful are comments on your interest in Austrian economics or Austrian scholarship in general, and your commitment to and capacity for pursuing a graduate degree. If you are already a graduate student, the letters should address the quality of your research and potential to make contributions in your academic field. If your professor wishes to send this letter privately, it can be emailed to fellowships@mises.org
